Collected in two spots. Infront of Rain Forest and in front of Ft. Crockett right before battery laval. 5 Sgm damsels, a few skillet fish, a couple dozen molly millers. NO PEPS!! Not even a Sargassum shrimp :/ But destroyed a new net. Sorry about the short notice. No date tonight so I went on a whim. Going to try again next week.
We saw huge matts coming in over by the last pier heading towards the west beach - seawall a few weekends ago.. But there is only rocks & water there... Tons of blue crabs in between the rocks great seafood gumbo.... LOL
I did get some sargassum shrimps and one baby angler in there.
But not to much sargassum around Rainforest area of the seawall heading to the East Beach but we did see 3 Pink Flamgos down that street heading to the east beach area. But like I said that was several weekends ago...
There was a decent amount of seaweed, but I think the surf was too rough for the shrimps. I also caught two baby spade fish, but those get too big for most of your aquariums.
When collecting from spot to spot what is the best way to keep what you collected from one spot not to fry in the heat while in the buckets inside the vehicles?
Take the buckets out of the vehicle when collecting at a new spot. Frequent water changes help. At night its not really a problem. I use a bait bucket with an airstone to keep the water circulating. It has a lid so not splashes for the ride.
I can't carry those buckets down those steps along the seawall when we go from spot to spot.. They start to get heavy after filling with water. I use the buckets that the salt comes in.
Keep what you've caught in small containers, keep them with you and do frequent small waterchanges. As long as the water is relatively shallow no airstone is necessary. Add more water to the containers when you're leaving, and put them in an icechest to keep temp swings slow. You can't leave them in the car.
We went today no sargassum at all today. We did find a sand eel coming up out of the sand along the shore line on the west side. Tried collecting for peps dont think they were peps they were clear color and a ton of blennies. Blennies went back into the water... What do the sand eels eat?
