As the title says I am new to the saltwater scene. I have had many planted tanks in the past and made the jump to salt. I had a friend who was getting ready to throw this tank to the curb and I just could not let him do that. The tank was in pretty ruff shape and took some elbow grease to get it looking like new again. Well for the details:

Tank: Elos System 70, 55 gallon

Filtration: Elos Sump, Protein Skimmer, Eheim 1250 pumps

Lighting: Geisman 150W MH, 4 T5HO actinic

Flow: Vortech MP10W

Chiller: Need one BAD

Base: Carib Sea Live Sand 40lbs, and approx 50lbs of dry rock from reefrocks

He was going to toss an ELOS? Glad you grabbed it :)

What's the plan for the tank? Cleanup looks great so far!

Dang I wish I could find someone tossing an elos to the curb... all we ever see in our division is old computers and broken lawn furniture...

Nice cleanup. Looking forward to this build...

Nice dude!
You might want that MH hang a little higher and try a fan over your surface to cool.
If that doesn't work, I might have a chiller for ya that is perfect for this tank.
Btw, you still have planted tanks?

Thank you. Vinegar is one great cleaning agent. The other tank is a Fluval Profile, I purchased it during the building stages of my house. The tank seemed to fit just perfect in the space that the Elos is in but one problem was all the plumbing and filters would have been un-accessible as the stand opens from the sides. So it is for sale unfortunately.

Oh my neighborhood has great things thrown to the curb. I have gotten like new garage shelving and storage cabinets and an outdoor futon that looks really good.

I was thinking about doing that, not quite sure how to though. Ill get a cheapo fan from Walmart for now. I would be very interested in a small chiller.
Yes I do have 1 planted tank left. I have the Spec V set up at my office here is a picture in its prime.

It's looking good. Nice job on the cleanup.

What are the livestock plans?

Currently planning on 1 true percula clown and 1 black oscellaris. Then a goby, and firefish then we shall see most likely 1-3 dwarf or pygmy angels. Need to see how my pocket book looks. Plus will be adding easy maintenance corals as we go along the journey. Very open to suggestions

You used dry rock right? How long as the tank had rock in it? Has it cycled?

The tank has had live rock for about a week. I used the quick cycled bio-spira to help get the cycle going. It has shown signs that it has indeed cycled but may go through another round with all the rock I just added. I will be doing a bunch of water changes this weekend to get my salinity in check as the new rock displaced lots of water into my ATO reservoir

What signs? Did you dose ammonia, watch it go to zero, see nitrite then go to zero, and see nitrates? Biospira is not a good bacteria to get a tank going that fast.

At any rate, the tank is way way too new for the bubble tip anemone, especially if your parameters like salinity are not steady.
