nevermind, it's the same width as a 40 breeder just 12 inchs high. i say sell more of your tanks and buy glass and build your own custom tank, sure you could get lots of help here.

Build a custom display tank, or sump? lol

Hope they are having the $1 sale soon. The petco on 1960 & eldridge had quite a few tanks in stock when I was there on tuesday, making me think the sale will be soon.

hey are you sure that stand can handle the weight. A guy I know from michigan tried to make made fun of my home built 125 gallon stand. The wood will weaken over time plus there is always the risk of someone accidently knocking into it. 2 by 4's are cheep so better safe than sorry. 125 gallon reef tank...5 damsels, 2 blue with yellow tail tangs, yellow tang, manderen, 1 green and 1 blue crocea clams, urchant, lots of mushrooms, pink bubble, buttons and so on. no sump and low maintence.

What are the dimensions inside the stand? Could you put the 10 gal on top of a 40 br?

Here's what I'm thinking:
6.png

(Sorry about all the lines, I'm getting tired. lol) The sump is a 29 gallon, the refugium/ RDSB is a 10 gallon, and the top off water storage is a 10 gallon.

Dimensions on the inside of the 2x4's are : 45"w x 35"t x 21"d.

I would recommend putting a baffle between the skimmer and return pump if you havent already. Will keep the bubbles from making it to your tank and also keeps water level steady in the skimmer section.

That's what that line coming from the left side of the return pump is. :) I copied it from Mr. Felix's (flexrac) sump. :D

i left the slanted baffle cince you are copying my fuge design for your sump. I see were you are going with this.

I added a extra baffle for bubble diffusion because i don't know how much flow you will be running through the sump.

I was thinking like Felix's tank, put the 40 br along the bottom and then put both 10 gal tanks sideways totally above the 40 br. Make a plywood shelf with 2x4 support along the back wall at about 18" (that's taller than the 40 br) and some more support at the front of the stand. If you screw it together, you can remove the shelf if you need to remove the 40 br for any reason.

The 10 gals would take up about 20" across the front, but if you stagger the 40 br to the left, and the 10 gals to the right, then the two 10 gal tanks wold only overlap the 40 br by about 12". I would make the right 10 gal the top off and the left one the refugium so it can drain right into the sump. You can do the refugium drain like my two drains from my back 29gal tank to the front one.

Well, dad got mad because some of the fish in my freshwater tank died, so I'm not allowed to buy anything until I: a. Make it look like a "showroom tank", or b. get rid of it (even then I can't buy anything until he says).

I can still work out the plans for this one, but there won't be any updates for at least another month.

ok, how did the fish die? what did you do?

No idea. I woke up Thursday morning and two fish were dead; I thought it was because of old age (they were over three years old). Woke up yesterday morning and found 7 more dead fish. I immediately did a 75% water change and cleaned the filter. After that, everything was fine. Came back from being out last evening, and dad had cleaned the glass because there was algae on it. Two more fish popped up between me leaving and coming back home (their bodies were in a tight spot in the tank, so I was waiting for them to get out in the open before disposing of them).

When dad heard of the death toal, he said I couldn't buy anything. I have been confronted about it 4 times since last night. He thought that algae on the glass and rocks suffocated them. I reminded him that algae are plants, which means that they absorb Co2 and Release H2O. He still expected more from me.

I am trying to kill the algae, however, by not feeding the fish as often and keeping the lights off for a few days.

Sorry I just saw this.

Yeah, 2x4's can handle up to a 6 foot tank, I think. I know that it will handle a 75 gallon. The 2x4's are on their sides so they won't warp as easily, if any at all. The corners of the stand are jointed so that there is support in both directions from each corner. The top and bottom have 2x4 braces, and the corners of them are at 45 degree angles and are screwed together with two screws on each side.

If this thing does fail, that's a good ammount of money gone to waste, and one angry family. lol

I might end up doing that. If I do go that route, I'll just put both the 10's over the 40br. That way, I have a few extra inches on the side in case I get serious and need a home for equipment.

Sorry to hear about your fish! :( Did anyone spray anything in the house that might have affected the fish? I'm assuming you have glass tops on the tank, but who knows, something could have still gotten in there. For that many to die it would almost have to be oxygen depletion, or some kind of chemical. I don;t know much about fish diseases, but that seems like a lot to die at once, unless the first deaths caused an ammonia spike or something and it dominoed from there. How many fish do you have left? I have a few extra fish in our FW tank you can have. :D

The bug guy came last Thursday, but the chemicals have never bothered the fish.

No, not tops on the tank.

I think there was a problem with ammonia because after I did the WC, everything was fine.

I have about 10 fish left.

No thanks on the fish; I think I'm going to take this tank down. I don't want this to happen again. I feel really bad because I've been convinced that I killed them because of all the algae. I was told I neglected them and that's why they died. I've been treating them the same as I have for over a year. IDK, just too much trouble over freshwater fish deaths.

Thiis is rally strange because I just lost four of the blennies that we caught in Galveston a few months ago. Three died over night and another one sometime later in the morning and all i did was a big water change about two days ago and put in some Pimafix in last night because my salifin "Desi" was scratching a little and the blennies started acting really strange but stop doing what they were doing and seemed fine till this morning.

I saw a few post on page two about Pecto's $1.00 per gallon. Not tiotally confirmed but it is starting tomorrow. Store clerk said to call first to confirm it.. She had not received the new flyer at but the manager said it will be tomorrow...
