I dont see how algae could possibly kill the fish unless it was REALLY bad. I've let our fw tank go for well over a month with no water changes or cleaning the filter, and those dang fish still won't die. :D

It was covering the glass. My pond gets dirtier than that in the summer, so I don't see how that did it. I see them eat the algae all the time, so I thought is was a good little snack for them whenever they get hungry. That and the fry ate it when they weren't big enough to eat pellets.

Algae didn't kill your fish, its impossible no matter how much you had. Other than being unsightly algae is a good thing. It grows/eats/utilizes on toxins, to fish ie. ammonia, nitrates, phosphates, (other wise known as fertilizer) uses co2 and emits O2.

Just checking to see if you were able to seal that 75 gallon tank that I gave you? Did you decide to put the rim back on? Make sure you test it for pressure! Would not want you to have the same accident that I had! :)

No, I haven't sealed it yet. It took two weeks to get the silicone because dad thought the one suggested was the wrong one. He thought that because it said "NOT FOR USE UNDERWATER", we shouldn't use it. I'm now looking at the tube and it says "RTV 100", not "RTV 103".

I'm still debating the trim. If I keep it off, I don't think it will mess with the strength of the tank. It was held on with gorilla glue before, so I don't see how it holds anything together.

What accident did you have?

OK, I'm back in business!! I cleaned the freshwater tank so now it looks like a "show tank". :D

Anyway, I bought a QuietOne 4000 from algarciajr yesterday, and picked up some green button pallys from funkmaster.

Also I changed the sump area design, again. I'm only going to use the 40 breeder under the stand. After seeing funkmaster's setup, I realized I don't need 10 zillion tanks underneath the stand to get everything to work.

Hopefully I can seal the 75 gallon next weekend.

What about the silicone that is sold at Petsmart I used it on one of my tanks because it was leaking and hasn't leaked since. Only thang is I can't remember if I used it inside the tank I'm thinking I did but that was well over 5yrs ago.

That stuff is expensive for such a small ammount.

The silicone sealant stuff they sell at the pet shops is just a sealant. I've seen it run $16-20 for a regular caulk tube. It is really just a sealant, not an adhesive for assembling tanks.

The Graingers GE RTV is actually a silicone Adhesive, it has the higher adhesive strength needed to assemble a larger tank successfully. Plus it costs less than $10 a tube, so it is cheaper than the pet store stuff for a better product. That is why it is used quite often for aquariums.

Just make sure that what you get has not expired. Silicone does have a shelf life and a date code on the tube. I would make sure it was made in the past 6 months or so.
