Well here we go again. Temps are gonna get cold for the next week before we get hit by the artic blast and into the 20s again. Get your heaters and backups, generators and what not ready. Im about to go get 55 gallons of gas for my generators and fill my 3- 80lb propane tanks. Too much in the tanks too loose. Worst thing could happen is you don't need it but will be ready for the next one....

So there are some weather models bringing a polar vortex not seen since the mid 80s. I remember being 5 and tunneling through 4ft of snow in the backyard when I lived in San Antonio. Today is like a warning shot from the north pole...

Yup, I think it will be in the 20's for a few days. All my potted plants are in the garage, planted plants that I care for are covered and water hoses insulated. I think this will be the norm annually with global warming.

Forecast is showing 18° Fri morning, pretty chilly. I ran my generator for about 45 mins yesterday and am filling my 2 5gal gas cans today. Gotta figure out a way to keep my chickens warm too, I have a drop light and a 60w bulb I'm going to hang in their small coop. It should be good enough to keep them somewhat warm,

I have no fallback plan for what to do about my aquarium if (when?) the grid goes down but my husband said not to worry. His emergency plan is to load all our critters into the car and drive to Mexico :ROFLMAO:

Go buy the 1” thick insolation board at Home Depot, cut up squares to cover the outside of the coop, then just tape them together. That’s what I did for my cat’s house outside. With that insulation and a single heat bulb, the house stayed in the 60s during the last winter storm.

Head to harbor freight and see if they have any generators left. A $300-500 generator is a lot cheaper than replacing everything in your tank.

wheres the cheapest place to grab a 20lb propane tank?
If for a genny I'd recommend no less then 80lb.. the 20s can't keep the pressure up and you only get about 1/2 tank before genny quits. They do have 'Y' connectors to connect multiple tanks. And propane prices have not come back down. Same as heating oil.

I was nervous there for a minute. Went to fire up the generator to make sure I was good to go and it wouldn’t start. By process of elimination I figured out it was the spark plug. Swapped it out for a new one and I was good to go. Bring on the cold, baby!
