Well it’s been awhile since I last updated this thread. I have made a few modifications and improvements on the system.
  • Started dosing with two part solution.
  • Upgrade my skimmer pump to a Pan World PS150
  • Added a second 20 gallon display fuge to the side of the main tank. (Needed an excuse to add another tank)
  • Pulled out some a couple of large pieces of LR to help clear up the cluttered look.

I still need to finish up the trim on the stand and fix the hole in the ceiling.

Really nice. Let's see your display refugium too, not enough people are doing those.

It does look great.

I am amazed how mature the tank looks in such a short time frame.
The coraline is growing like crazy! You keeping the calcium at 500 or something?

Nope I'm having to dose just to keep it at 450. Keep in mind I had the sand and LR cycling in my garage for about 5 months while I built out the stand and gathered all of my equipment.

dkh 10
cal 450
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate barely even detectable
mag 1570
ph 8.8
phosphate about 10 on my test kit  having messy eaters like the angler, puffer, and eel make it difficult to control.

nice has "dock" eaten anyone yet?

Nope "Doc" hasn't even tried. My son and nieces name all of my fish after disney characters.

The only two small enough that he might be able to eat are the clown fish. There is no chance with the Maroon she is a fighter, the perc and the angler actually swim around together in the evening when the sunset cycle starts.

Wow John did I read that right 8.8 on the ph is that high or thats the only way to get good coraline growth. I'm only dosing my tank four times a day with kalk at about 5 minutes a shot and my cal is about the 450 to 500 range, only dose turbo cal, once a week and mag dose as directed and been doing this since my new LR and sand change over and still slight signs of purple growth
   are these or this corner bow front just a fish only tank and the way of radius motion in the tank permit coraline growth, maybe when Kevin comes and moves my tank from All about fish he can give some pointers and I'll definitely be taking notes :?

tank

Ok now I'm really mad :-x my daughters nano tank which has only been up and running for 2 months already just looking at it has coraline growth on the back, and I don't even dose it with anything, ok maybe a drop or two with purple up, but I've done that dose on a regular basis on my tank with no such luck, any Marine Biologist in here can tell me where the secret is   please please I'll give a coral away

Sorry Loyd... My PH is 8.3, 8.8 was a typo. But I find that the higher the Alkalinity the more growth I see in my coralline and corals. I keep that steady at 10.

I don't know that there is any magic bullet for successful growth. I started my tank with very mature live rock that had been in a tank for many years before it passed over to me. My nano has been up and running for almost a year now and although I’ve had a lot of success with growth of my corals I have yet to see the nice purple or pink coralline algae take off. I saw growth on my glass the first month my big tank was online.

Here is an interesting article Click Here

Just remember patience=success :thumb:

tank

Yeah thats why I replied cause I was admiring once again you tank build and noticed the coraline growth in the back already and knowing the dates, was really smacking my head against the wall. ug that hurt too, just kidding
I'm still thinking my hammy mag ballast is the problem, even with 15k XM bulb it still wants to burn white at times, and my alk is a color chart around hmm look me go look, ok avg. readings are at 1.7 to the 2.8 milli equivalents per liter, but says normal for that color reading, but sometime more on the bluer side

Thank You... With a few minor exceptions everything has come from other Marshian tanks and I think that has a lot to do with the growth and health of the corals. Most of them have already gone through the adaptation to tank hood so they've done very well.

He's never shown the least bit of interest in them. He eats frozen silver sides and he starts waving his lure whenever he sees me in front of the tank. I'm sure he's the exception not the rule.
