Confirmed this several times. I’ve been ordering from this guy since 2014 and have never got ICH from his Snails or Macro algae. That’s because he “doesn’t” have FISH! 🐠

Just placed a $200.00 order and I hadn’t read this thread. I asked him the same question. One thing about John he seems to be very on top of his business, which is a family business by the way. Responds quickly to inquiries.

You are right...for the last 7 years I’ve ordered from this guy he says the same thing if I ask him questions or have a girlfriend or now my wife hit him up through different accounts.

He’ll say...Thank you Reefahholic...I will get it out on such and such day. I’ll say that for sure the guy is very consistent.

FYI, his snails have Vermetids on them. Most of us have them, but if you don’t I’d suggest knocking them off and using a Dremel on the shells. Vermetids are microscopic.

He does not recommend drip acclimation, which for inverts I was always told in the past was pretty important. I will go on his protocol.
I have heard this on a lot of shipments because there is a high amount of ammonia from a full day of shipping. Getting them out of the ammonia is very important. Just temp acclimation then drop them in is what they recommend.

I will admit I don't follow that. I'll do temp then a very quick drip acclimation. I don't think 30 min will kill them when they've delt with it for 12+ hours.

EDIT: read TriggerFans post. Disregard this

The problem is not your 30 min acclimation.

The problem is when you acclimate, the PH difference between the water they came (which will be low) and the water you use to acclimate (higher PH) will cause a big ammonia spike, hence a much more chance of killing your new inverts.

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the info!

I just got the macro’s in today. The Cheato was a small ball and look fine. The Fern Caulerpa wasn’t so fern like. LOL. Looked like a bunch of stems. As long as it survives! Not sure I can tell if it’s the right species I ordered. Wouldn’t recommend ordering the Caulerpa from him, but if we know for sure it’s clean then might still be worth it.

Either way, they’re never out of stock it seems and maybe this is why. He gives very small portions of the Caulerpa. I fresh water dipped it all and not even a pod came off!

I’m convinced his stuff is definitely clean and there’s no fish at his business.

Had to build a Cheato Containment refugium and move all my Siporax out of its spot to bring in the fuge. This should keep most of the Cheato in check and prevent it from getting sucking into the skimmer, return, and keep it out of the DT.

Okay I ordered from here for the first time - I should get my order TR or Fri.

Mostly snails and reef safe crabs.

@Reefaholic: Are you also leaving your invertebrates through a 45-72 day QT?
I wanted to use my frag / grow tank as coral QT and just read it should not have any fish to avoid tomonts or other cross-contamination.
Interestingly, I have also read that a frag tank system has a much successful chance with some fish in it.

I was thinking about using a 20 gallon tank to QT invertebrates, but I assume I would not be able to QT in larger quantities. (Say, 100+ snails) .
Debating... should I remove the fish from my frag / grow out tank(s)?
