red sea blue bucket?

Will probably make a permanent switch. I don’t see tmp fixing their issue anytime soon.

I can pull more sources. But mainly going off BRS tests.

ninja edit: going over the data again I guess they said pretty much all of them are pretty stable enough for long term storage. I just remember when I used to use red sea, they recommending using the mixed saltwater within 24 hours of mixing.
Gotcha. I was just curious. I mix my reef crystals about once a month then let the AWC do its thing. Never had any issues. I started doing this after seeing that d2mini used to do that back in the day and he had a lot of success.

Most salts are fine long term in a mixer. Both the Red Sea Coral Pro and the Blue bucket degrade over time if continuously mixed and seems to be the only salt that does this. The blue bucket only loses about 5-10% alkalinity after a week of being mixed and mostly negligible and my go to after the TMP stuff. The coral pro version drops considerably more over time in calcium and alkalinity but both stay in usable ranges depending on the tank.

My main salt I use is Aquavitro Salinity... it requires a 24hr mix BEFORE you can add it to the tank.

I ran salinity for a while, but the last bucket I got just didn't mix clear at all. It would be cloudy after 24 hours of mixing and then when added to the tank, would cloud that up for a few days.

fake news, it’s not actually a recall.

they just stopping production. They aren’t actively recalling buckets

Wow, this Jake Adams dude really must be a journalist. This is quoted from his Reef Builders article...

"The cause of the coral problems have not been pinned down yet, nor has the root cause, but after months of negative comments about the Turkish Blend of Tropic Marin Pro Reef the company issued a very carefully worded statement announcing a ‘recall’ without using that word: “As a precautionary measure, we have decided to interrupt the production and distribution of Tropic Marin Pro-Reef salts, blended in our facility in Turkey, until further notice.”"

This is a classic reason why we don't trust the media. How IN THE WORLD does he infer a recall from this statement?!...

"As a precautionary measure, we have decided to interrupt the production and distribution of Tropic Marin Pro-Reef salts, blended in our facility in Turkey, until further notice"

How is that a recall?! Sorry!! His irresponsible reporting got me fired up! Thanks for listening. Hahaha.

These issues have been reported for a long time now and they ignored it and they’ve been dishonest about it. That’s pretty sad because I really like Lou. Unfortunately money does this to people.

I always ran IO and just dropped the alkalinity a little with acid. Would have loved to use Red Sea blue bucket but couldn't justify the per bucket cost vs. IO.

I mixed 24 hours in a vat and then occasionally to stir the holding tank to keep from having stratified layers. I was using an automated water change system.

Yup I finally came to the conclusion it was the salt mid January.

Update regarding our January 27th statement regarding Tropic Marin Pro-Reef sea salt manufactured in our Turkish production facility.

We have confirmed that the issue described in our January 27th only impacts certain batches of Tropic Marin Pro-Reef sea salt manufactured in our Turkish production facility packaged in 100-gallon and 160-gallon boxes and in 200-gallon buckets. The salt produced at our Turkish facility can be identified from our other manufacturing sites, as follows: A label on the front of the 100-gallon and 160-gallon potentially affected boxes states, “Manufactured in Turkey under the authority of Tropic Marin AG”. The 200-gallon buckets have this statement as well on the side of the bucket. We believe the impacted product from our Turkish facility started arriving in the US in April of 2021 and have been sold from then until the current time. We are diligently working to narrow this down further to specific batch numbers.

For the current time, all new salt shipments from Tropic Marin to the US market, will come from one of our German manufacturing facilities. We apologize to anyone who may have received anything but the best from us. We are working on implementing a plan with your retailers, and our distributors, to address the replacement of affected product and will provide updates as soon as practicable.

We will do our best to post updates as soon as we have new information. Please check our website www.tropic-marin.com for authorized updates directly from Tropic Marin.

Your Tropic Marin team

FYI:

AFTER APRIL: The Turkey batch code has 6 digits while the Germany batch code has 8 digits.
From what I gather between mittens and my friend if you buy through Live Aquaria you will receive German batches... I believe BRS is sitting on turkey stockpile.

Either way better to probably switch to red sea sps dominant for now.
