Kyle... they are not being rude but just honest. When I first got into this hobby, I had to buy a few pieces at a time. It took almost 3 months for me to start my first tank. I understand that you are 15 years old but you do have a older brother that you told me was 18 and was able to drive. Have him take you out of your neighborhood to mow yards. With the two of you, you both can make twice the money. Your other choice is wait til you are 16 and you can get a part time job.
You have to understand that everyone has families to care for financially and they also have their own tanks to care for. It is one thing for one of us to ask for help in an emergency but I have been a member off and on since 2007 and I have never heard of someone constantly begging for hand outs. Being a father, I would never allow my son to be able to bring in a hobby that I was not going to participate in. I went out and bought him a dog, turtles, birds, and the saltwater tank but with the understanding that it was going to be ME that had to take care of them. The dog and turtles are going to live a LONG TIME.
I have read where people have given you a fish and a couple of days later, it dies. That fish cost someone money and the fish died in the hands of someone inexperienced. To most of us, the livestock that we put into our tanks becomes sort of like another child(children) to us and to see something happen to it bothers us. We take the time to feed, do water changes, buy the correct items that it needs... to see it mature from a frag into a colony. Same goes with the fish.
To end this post, buddy, you don't have the financial means to take care of this hobby. You have to be able to drop money just like that if something happens or you will destroy the whole tank. Collect piece by piece, buy everything you need in due time, and continue trying to mow yards or what ever you feel is the means of earning money and at the end... you will understand the pride of YOUR tank because you did it on your own. Believe me, it feels good when someone compliments your hard work. Good luck!!!
