On Sunday on my way home from Port Aransas, Tx, Candace contacted me to see if i have any rotifers for trade. I told her yes and I should be home in 1 hr for pick up. When i walked into my house, i smelled death fish so i knew right way that they were my clowns. I was not in the mood to do the trade so I told her to contacted Cat for rotifers.
On Monday, Candace told me she has more babies(around 60) and asked if i want to raise them, I told her YES.

Since i dont have any clowns to breed or any fry to raise, I went to her house and picked up 12 babies. This is my first time raising seahorse, Wish me luck. lol
This will keep me busy for while. :)

You have to feed wild caught live food but captive -bred will eat frozen food.

You work at Moody Gardens?

That's a great video. I will try to get the photos of the parents, Pandora and Epimethius, and the tank full of babies (what I woke up to Monday morning) uploaded soon. Our babies are still hanging in there. I know it is supposed to be very difficult to raise Kuda fry to adulthood but I figure if anyone can- it would be you and Cat. By splitting them up, their odds should increase. Thank you again for the rotifers. The babies have been eating them for a couple of days now and I will try them on baby brine this evening (hopefully they have hatched by then). Cat was going to see how hers responded to copepods. While it is a new experience for all of us, hopefully it will be successful, and if not, we should learn what to change for next time- and there will be a next time (barring any catastrophe with the parents). Epimethius was even pursuing her during "labor" :)

Mine are doing good, I believe they're eating the smaller copepods, the adults are too large still. I have mine in a dark grey bucket with a slow bubbling airline in it for a little circulation. Been slowly adding more water for them, didn't want to shock them if my water is much different from what they were born in. Will see about posting some pics tonight.

Photos of Kuda parents and fry

I finally got around to resizing the photos of the parents and the fry at the top of the seahorse tank the morning I discovered them.

Currently, I have no filter running with the fry- just an air stone and water changes necessary. Their light is a standard clip light mounted on my desk and has a 60 watt bulb aimed at the 2.5 gallon tank. The parents are in a cheap column tank with built in lid and light. They have a HOB filter that came with the tank. We also do weekly water changes on the parent's tank and change the filter cartridge at that time. The uneaten mysis builds up fast. Weekly water changes are a must.
That is how I have things set up. Cat and Mike can give you their input as well.

I have no filter in my fry tank right now and i do water change everyday(10%).

Seahorses are easy to care if you have a tank just for them. I kept 5 horses over a year without any problem and they RIP overnight when my filter pump went out.
I even trained them to eat out of a plastic plate i made for them.
Few pics of my horses.

Well, got home from work to check on the little ones. All 11 I got from Candace last night are still doing good :) Eating well, they do seem to go for the bbs/copepods a lot more than rotifers at this point, though they may be snicking them up and I just can't see it happen.

Day 4 or 5 now, I lost a few yesterday (I think the water got too dirty). Still have 8 of them...trying a greenwater technique to see how that works. Can't get a pic from the side with the water green, but got one from the top :) Cute little guys!
