Man I lost 4 yesterday as well. they were eating so well too. My 3 tigertails have been doing good. But they're not eating frozens yet. =(

On a side note... Mikey.... my tank raised bangaii cardinal pair I got from matt 1 1/2-2 yrs ago have breed.!!!!!! So fast, they were smaller then a dime when I recieved them. The males mouth is huge full of eggs!! He's not eating much, just raising the fry in his mouth.

Day 4 or 5 now, I lost a few yesterday (I think the water got too dirty). Still have 8 of them...trying a greenwater technique to see how that works. Can't get a pic from the side with the water green, but got one from the top :) Cute little guys!

I have lost 4 or 5 as well. I am still feeding rotifers and have added copepods today as well. Not sure if they are eating the copepods or not. Many seem too large for their small mouths. Let me know if the greenwater technique works, Cat.

How are everyone's babies doing? We are entering week 2. What are you guys feeding now and how many fry are left? I just want to compare notes.

Overfeed them BBS(too much bbs will make water dirty fast) and lost 3 last week so now I cut down on bbs and only feed enough for them to last 3hrs. They only eat bbs and dont touch rotifers at all. They grew double their size and I think this 5 will make it.

How many you have left cacarnold3?

Sorry to hear that Cat. I was concerned this morning when the thunderstorms were rolling through. Are the rest of your tanks okay?

Yeah, it was the smaller tanks like the one with the fry that were affected most. The larger ones were OK.

Mike,
I have between 20-25 left. I am still feeding rotifers. There are still some larger tigger pods in their tank as well but I don't think they can eat them because they are so large. I tried mine on BBS on day 3 or 4 but, they didn't seem to eat them and you are right about them dirtying up the water. I figure I will try them again soon- now that the babies are a bit larger. I also bought some Tisbe pods to feed and try to culture ( I have to look up how to start a copepod culture).

Daddy seahorse is currently in a Hospital tank. Went to feed them on Friday morning and he had a large wound on his side. Consensus is that it is a heater burn. Guess I am going to have to order a heater with a built in guard for their tank. Trying to keep bacterial infection from killing him by lowering the water temp. I also have meds on hand in case it gets worse. Seems like all weekend was spent on Seahorses! BTW, I am looking to upgrade the parents tank. Where did you get the one you posted the photos of? It's not easy to find tall tanks.

Its a lot of working but fun.

That tank is a 15g tall and was given to me by Tempset years ago. I dont think you can find it anymore.

Mike,
Thank you for letting us see your setup last night. It is impressive and the little guys are looking great (and huge compared to mine). Once we returned home, we added the blackout paper to all sides of the fry tank, moved the light to the top and fed more baby brine. We also set up a second BBS hatchery and started more eggs for today. We worked on the new parent tank and got it cycling with water from the old parent tank and some new saltwater as well as two bags of live sand. It was after 1 am when we finally stopped working on seahorse related chores :). I have no idea how many of mine are left (now that we blacked out all sides) but did see a few swimming around from the top this morning and at least one was fat and happy with a stomach full of orange brine. Hopefully the others catch on and take to their new food as well. Only time will tell. Dad is still looking bad but acting like normal so, hopefully he is recovering from his heater burns. He is really fat and looks like he is going to give birth again any day. Get ready for more. I'll be texting as soon as I see them in the tank.

Cat,
will you be willing to try again if he gives birth soon?

Good to know. I will let you know when he gives birth again. Apparently there is no rest for the weary in the world of seahorses.

Okay, it looks like we are doing this again. Found 2 babies in the tank this morning. I can only assume that (if it is like last time) there will be more tomorrow. Cat, you may want to get your tank ready. Mike, I know you are. Cross fingers we are still looking at around 60 or so when he is done this time. It's funny, I forgot just how small they were when they were first born. I guess my two week olds have really grown:).
