Very nice mike. I thought about making one by heating an acrylic sheet around a 5 gallon bucket or something.

Holy Cow Mike! You weren't kidding when you said you'd break out the acrylic. Well, it looks like a bit of bad news from my end. This morning there were only two more swimming babies. It appears that the male expelled a lot of unhatched eggs into the tank along with about 5 more babies. 3 of the babies never got off the bottom of the tank, the other two are happily swimming around. I have been trying to read about males delivering unhatched eggs and it appears to not be very common. Basically, it is thought that, if a male is stressed or ill he might not bring the eggs to term in the two weeks he has them. I am almost certain that the burn and move to the hospital tank (with daily 50% water changes and a temp drop) has been enough to stress him out completely. Hopefully, in another couple of weeks, he will be healed and have returned to his fabulous new home where he will deliver all of the little ones. Sorry about the news Mike and Cat. It looks like it will be another couple of weeks. The good news is... there appears to be a schedule- 14-15 days between batches. It should help with everyone's planning.

They do really seem to like their new place. I'd imagine they are wondering about all of those clownfish out there :). I still can't believe that one of yours is yellow. The three larger ones we have left are all brown/black. It looks like two tiny horses are hanging in there as well (so far). At least one of the larger ones has finally started hitching. We are going to try the net breeder box if we can figure out a few logistics. If we get them moved to the parent tank with the box, I'll post a picture.

Mike,
How are the babies doing? I am ordering some probiotics for the adult and fry tanks. They are supposed to help in multiple ways. When I order, they come in large quantity so I will be sure to give you some if you'd like to try them. I am also ordering some Dan's Feed to enrich the baby brine shrimp. The two larger babies that we have are very different sizes. One is substantially larger than the other. We have had some success at culturing Tisbe pods and have been feeding those to the fry as well. We are willing to try anything at this point:).

I just had more to start with. Trust me, your success rate is much higher than mine. I hope that adding the probiotics helps with future success.

It's so cool that local folks are breeding fish! One day I would love to learn how and possibly raise a few seahorses myself.

Mike, this was a learning experience for all of us. I still have the two left and only time will tell if they make it to adult. I keep thinking that my male will have more fry soon. Every morning I turn off the skimmer and filter before dawn, just in case. Maybe you and Cat will get a second chance in the next week or two. Poor thing, I think his schedule may be a bit off track. The light from the fry tank shines into the parent tank 24/7. Maybe I should invest in a nano LED light...but then it wouldn't heat the fry tank (always a dilemma). Thank you for all of the help that you have given us so far.

Mike,
Looking great! I will try an post photos of the new kreisel fishbowl that mine are in. They seem to be eating well and most have bright orange bellies :). Thank you for helping with the build/ design of the Kreisel. We are still working on the grow out/future fry tank and hope to have it running soon. I have started feeding the two larger ones (5 week olds) frozen cyclopeeze in addition to their copepods and BBS. I have no idea if they are eating it or not but they do spend most of their time scouring the bottom of the tank so hopefully they are. In a couple of weeks we will start adding shaved frozen mysis.

Cat,
I heard you were on vacation while this last batch was born. The day after they arrived we witnessed Pandora transfer eggs to Epimethius again (only wish I had my video camera handy it was quite interesting to watch). There should be more babies in approximately two weeks and you can come take what you want (we have our hands full).

Here we go again. This morning there were a lot of little seahorses swimming around the parent tank. For the first time, I had the filter and skimmer off overnight so we shouldn't lose any to those this go round. Cat and Mike, are you ready to come and get more? We will be busy rotating every one around later this evening. I think the babies we keep from this batch will go into the kreisel. The handful that we have left from the last batch will go to the 2.5 gallon now that the two 7 week olds are moved to their 20 gallon. That way the two week olds can begin to hitch and actively hunt their food. Please let me know if you think you can make it by this evening. I should be home all night.
