I think I'm just going to leave it an empty tank. After seeing Mr. Eric (funkmaster)'s tank, I don't think I need any baffles. I'm just thinking of a filter sock, and some kind of bubble trap.

no baffles means more evaporation, more evaporation means salinity swings. yes i know you have an ato, will it keep up?

plus you need to set your skimmers water level, after doing that, will you have room for drainage at power out? just think it out before doing it, do a water test, and see how you like it. that's all i ask.

hate to see you ssetup and have failure and your dad getting on you.

Just saw this. Sorry!

I got ya. Mr. Thomas (trb) stopped by a few days ago, and after talking to him, I decided baffles would be best.

Okay, update:

Got the silicone to work last Friday. Has been in water testing since Sunday. So far, no leaks. :D

I have one of two BRS shipments coming in tomorrow (next order will be placed when I have more cash).

Also, I bought my 1" bulkheads from Mr. Dennis at FJW on Friday, and ordered a 1-34" hole saw Friday night from Glass-Holes.com. The saw should be here tomorrow as well.

I'm setting up my sump and should have that done this weekend. After the sump is done and the overflow is hooked up, the only thing left to do is build the canopy.

Trb saw the tank, and he thinks I can go without the trim because it wasn't the full piece type. He also suggested against euro-bracing, but I would like to get more inputs (not that his doesn't count). Who here thinks I can euro-brace the tank?

Also, I bought the high-capacity carbon from BRS, but am wondering if it is the same as water softener carbon. Thanks!

He has a good 8" wide solid glass center brace, along with a small metal brace, all siliconed in place to hold the center of the tank together. I don't think it would be worth the time and $$$ to cut that out and try to eurobrace it. Since it does have a few chips in the glass, I suggested a small piece of trim to just cover the edge, and also hide the metal brace and some of the center glass brace. I should have taken some pics so everyone can see.

Cool! Now I know where to rent a hole saw for MY tank! :D

You know, if you just want a basic minimal trim, I did see some plastic trim at the hardware store that would probably work to just cover the edge of the tank. It would just need some black paint, and if you cut it right in the corners, you can use one solid piece for the front and both sides. And 1/2 of one piece for the back. What is the thickness of the glass?
