Wingnut has also used the Vibrant. He may also have some local perspective to offer you.

Does anyone in Houston sell it? I could swear I have seen that bottle somewhere before...
Hmmmm....I honestly am not sure. I got it online through the original thread on r2r. At the time there was a discount offered. However I don't know if the discount is still being offered or not.

Im happy to post the question to the thread and see if they are in the local market anywhere.

I used it in my wife's little 6 gallon nano , that turned real bad after about 4 months , GHA everywhere the back glass could not even see , and diatoms on substrate, and I did do maintenance on thus little tank about 20 to 25 % water changes weekly. Now temp is kinda hard to keep real stable. I ordered an 8 oz. bottle you are suppose to 1 ml per 10 gallons , I added .5 ml the first week and then did my weekly WC and added another .5 ml , now I did also add some more snails , but after week two all algae is gone , there two little spots of GHA , but substrate is clean, now I only add .5 ml every two weeks. So far so good, it has worked for this little tank. No skimmer but must do regular water changes.

IMO though it is carbon and you can get same results using a lot cheaper DIY carbons and cultured bacteria like the Biodigest , just need to run a skimmer , the vibrant is kinda pricey the 8 oz. bottle was like 23.99 , I can make gallons of VSV for 15 bucks. Just my opinion , I only used on this nano because no skimmer and 2 gallons of water a week WC.

It's not a carbon source. It a bacteria culture more like BioDigest or such. However Vibrant isn't using nitrifying bacteria I don't think.

Vibrant Liquid Aquarium Cleaner Ingredients -

95% Cultured Bacteria Blend
1% Amino Acids (Aspartic Acid)
0.5% Vinegar - This is used as the preservative
3.5% Other Ingredients (RO/DI Water)

Ya I was kinda looking it is a cultured bacteria but the .5% vinegar as a carbon source for the bacteria. I do know it really worked in our little 6 gallon nano , it has never look as good.

I ordered a bottle of it, so I should start dosing this week. I have used Dr. Tim's Waste Away and it did nothing to my bubble algae.

Waste Away does exactly what it says. It's not a bubble algae remover. Bubble algae is extremely hard to rid once it starts like most other algae. This is why I'm switching to a low neutrient system. I tore down my last reef behind bubble algae. Drove me nuts so I started scraping it off the rocks and popped a ton of bubbles releasing thousands of spores. When I kept the neutrients low, it didn't really grow but wouldn't go away. If I neglected the tank, it had a party. The best way to remove bubble algae IMO is don't get it in the first place and if you do, manually remove the rock and then the bubble algae outside the tank. Then place back into the system after rinsing the rock very well.

You forgot a few steps after manual removal, let me help...

  1. dip rock in 37% HCL - min exposure 5 minutes
  2. dip rock in NaOCL - min exposure 1 hour
  3. dip rock in H2O2 - min exposure 1 hour
  4. blow torch rock - min exposure 10 minutes
  5. wet rock with saltwater, apply 480v to wet rock - min exposure 1 minute (or M80 or dynamite)..
  6. throw whatever fragments of the rock are left in the trash

I hate that crap... lol... :jump:

Just ordered a few bottles to see what all they hype is. Hope it rids my tank of the bubble algae I can see but can't get too.

Been using it for 2 months now to get rid of my bubble algae as well.

Thoughts so far... Not snake oil.

Wiped out a tiny section of cyano in a back corner, wiped out my red turf algae on my rocks (which I actually wanted to keep for the tangs and angels to graze on), wiped a cool red fleshy algae in my sump, some effects on ulva but not complete tank wipe, and bubble algae about the same but I haven't seen any new ones.

Its interesting to watch it wipe one type of algae out at a time out in the system. I'm hoping the bubble algae is its last step!

While not a direct association since I've added 3 purple queen anthias to the tank and feeding a lot more the last month, I did notice my phosphate level go up but my nitrates stayed the same. Again, could just be because I'm feeding more for the anthias.
