Some Pics from Around here after the storm

We made out better than most of the other streets in our neighborhood, and our house only lost 3 fence sections, the roof of the woodbox, and a dead stick from the front yard. I filed a CNN iReport, and the pictures are there (all taken with my iPhone, so the quality isn't so great)...

    Will code for food....

I am "out of work" for a little while, and being a contractor, that means I don't get paid. Yet, for some reason, the bills still need to be paid (what's up with that?). Anyway, if anyone knows of any Java, C, PHP, PL/SQL, PERL, ASP.NET, JSP, or other programming or maintenance gigs, please...

    Rolling Acrylic.....

Anyone ever tried this before? I need a REALLY think walled acrylic tube, and I figure that the best I'm going to be able to do is roll some 0.010" sheeting into a tube.... Unless, of course, someone knows where I can get thin walled tubes.... If you can help, I'd love to discuss the project...

    DiveHouston.Org has moved

To all: I had to move DH over to a new set of servers, and had to reset some thiings along the way. One of the things that got lost were all of the user accounts. If you had an account, you'll have to recreate it.... Sorry This is also an open invitation for all MARSHians, and visitors...

    Server Change

I have just finished the move of the Dive Houston web site to an outsourced server. Hopefully I will get better reliability from this new organization. All DNS entries should be updated by now, and I have ported the nuke databases over, so all of your ids should still work. And, I'll stomp a...

    Big ole Fields

I thought I had asked this once before, but now I can't find the thread to bump it, so I'm going to politely ask again: Does anyone know of a great big field, preferrably with few to no trees, around the area? Anywhere within a decent drive (say within 100 miles of SE Houston)? Oh, and public...

    Helloooooo From England!

I'm abroad in the UK for this next month (won't be home until August) and I'm going to check in every now and then. We're in Canterbury (staying RIGHT NEXT to the cathedral) and so far driving (yeah, I drove) has been the second biggest problem. The first biggest? Parking. Since no one...

    Suggestions needed

I am looking for a very small (nano, 15g or less) tank that has the right lighting and such for keeping some soft corals (zoanthigs mainly). What are good brands to look at, and where is a good place to shop? Matt

    KZAAAT!

To add to my already sucky week, tonight I lost one of my stand lights to an "undiagnosed electrical failure". Here's the worst part. It IS plugged into a GFCI, but this type of light doesn't have a grounding plug (I know, dry area applications only.... don't waste your fingers, I knew that...

Next NEXT Project.... 40 Gallon Breeder

This was originally in DIY, but then it's complete now, so this seems like a better place. Here is a digest of the new system: To that end, I have procured a 40 Breeder tank from the local PetCo, and also bought the stock fiber-board stand that comes with it. However, after about 2 days of...

    Refresher Course

For those of you wanting to hit the FGBNMS with the MARSH dive trip in April, but are feeling a little bit rusty, I was thinking about a Blue Lagoon "overnight" dive trip the weekend of April 15-17 (get there Friday night for a night dive). We can cover compass navigation, I can run you through...

    40b: The Next Adventure

Howdy all... as most of you know (by now) I've decided to tear down my 265 tank, and re-claim some space in my house from the ocean. I've decided NOT to get rid of everything, but just to scale back a bit. To that end, I have procured a 40 Breeder tank from the local PetCo, and also bought...

    Any Glass Crafters out there?

I am in the market for a "somewhat custom" smaller glass tank. If you can do relaible glass work, and don't mind a 30-something OCD client, please PM me and I'll pitch you what I am looking for, then you can tell me that I'm crazy

    Wildfire's 20G Nano Experiment

I found that my 265 was eating me alive, so I pulled an old 20g out of the garage, washed it down real good, bought a new set of lights, filled it with water, rock, and corals from my big tank (in the process of tearing it down) and I'm at day #1. Here is a link to my tracking site...

    Dehumidifier as top off?

Okay, I know that this SOUNDs crazy, which is why I'm soliciting opinions... My tank evaporates about 10g of water per day, and still gets HOT. So I've got a really hot humid room. I'm shopping around for a dehumidifier, and trying to figure out how to get it to drain out the window, when it...

    Marine Medical

Hopefully, this is the first in a ONE part series of articles that I will ever have to write. I finally got the time (and to a good place) with my recent problems to document up what happened to me. It's a good read (I think), and there are pictures...

    Help wanted

As some of you may or may not know, I have been in the hosiptal for the past full week receiving IV antibiotics for an agressive infection which I sustained through and open wound while working in my tank. I am under strict orders from my physician AND my wife to not perform any maintenance in...

    How to bend acrylic.....

I have a project that I've been putting off for far too long, and it involes acrylic. I got past my first hurdle (cutting a 48x24 sheet into 3 16x24 sheets) this morning, and now I need to put the bend into a few of these sheets. I have found articles referencing heat guns, heat strips, and...
