Been thinking about doing the same thing in my garage but wondered about the sheetrock where the walls meet. It doesn't look like you removed the old sheetrock so it is sandwiched between the top plate and the ceiling joists right? I am guessing that doesn't hurt anything? I have seen people remove the sheetrock in those spots in the past and wondered if it was necessary.

Looks great guys and loving the purple sheetrock!!!

It's not necessary because the wall isn't load bearing. If it was a load bearing wall then the studs would need to be in direct contact with the ceiling joists above. It looks like you live close to me. Whenever you're ready, I can walk you through it. 90% of it, like any job, is having the right tools. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward.

That makes sense about the load bearing. We are planning to move soon so will be a while longer before I can build a fish room.
Yeah I am across 45 from The Woodlands. No idea why they don't rename our area to something other than Spring...Oak Ridge since we are still in Montgomery county....Spring runs from here all the way to Tomball.

Slowly coming together. Gonna get more drywall work done tonight. Big shout out to Steve helping me pick up the door today (my company vehicle changed and now I can fit hardly anything in my new vehicle) and Wingnut for helping me install the door.

Got the window hung

Went to test fit the door. Oopppsss. I originally designed the door frame for a taller door, but they didn't have any on hand, plus they would have been a lot more expensive.

Luckily, I kept the 2x4s that were cut out of the bottom base board for the door entrance. Perfect fit. Just popped it in, ran some screws, and it was good to go.

Ready to go.

Guess I have to update my membership. I thought it was renewal on paypal automatically. :noidea:
(Okay paid manually)

Yeah it definitely makes things easier. Not related to the build itself, but I came across a good deal on some established live rock and some nice sod colonies, but I couldn’t house them yet. Reeftopia and Wingnut are both helping me out by housing them until I get my build ready to go. HUGE help! I owe them big time.

Great. My 60 rimless holding my corals has been acting funking lately. Finally put my hand in it after a few days, felt hot as hell, and the temp is 84. The heater was set at 75 after a few days ago I felt it was hot. When I felt the heater just now, it was actively working despite the tank being 84 degrees. Hope the toll on my corals isn't too much. Switched the heater out for a spare that I have.

My large build will have four heaters designed to hold 25% of the load each to avoid this problem. I'm not losing a butt ton of corals over some inexpensive heaters (I have always used eheim jagers and never had a problem before right now) and outlet space.

I use these cheap thermometers to cross check heater and controller temp.

I have historically used a lab grade thermometer to measure temperature. I got a Hanna ph checker at the Christmas party, and come to find out, the ph measuring part is useless. However, the built-in thermometer is spot in with laboratory grade equipment, so I have that digital read. It's bad when you put your hand in the tank and think the water is too hot to swim in though. Either way, I will have the four heaters, in addition to a nice digital readout that gives me live time feeds in the future. I have a really nice Jason fox papa Smurf frag, and a very nicely encrusted blue Oregon tort shedding skin right now. Just those two frags set me back $100. Not good.

On a more positive note, I don't want to spoil the layout just yet, but I picked up two 48x12x12 tanks today from urban aquatics. They're from David's old shop but are in great condition. The design that I have planned should be very nice. They're going to be on semi-floating shelves, so they should have a real clean look.

Nice! You can create something fun with two 4ft tanks.

Yeah I haven't even set the room up and I'm wishing that I made it bigger. Getting greedy, I suppose haha

I should have followed d2mini's advice and just paid someone to do the drywall. I'm realizing how out of shape I am. My chest and shoulders are getting rocked from the sanding!
