    Boudster's Custom 110G Reef Build

I just got back from a 27 month work assignment in Siberia and I am ready to get back into the hobby (I've actually been out of the hobby for about 5-6 years now). Just moved into a new home and I have a "nook" that is perfect for an aquarium. The nook is 66" Long by 21.5" wide. Inside the...

Getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus

Hi All, Most of you probably don't know me since I've been out of the hobby for about 5-6 years, but I've just moved back to Houston from Russia and I'm ready to set up a new reef in my new home. I'm likely looking for a custom tank build somewhere in the range of 60"X18"X18". Have there been...

    painting back of aquarium

What kind of paint can I use to paint the back of my aquarium? No one at Lowe's or Home Depot seems to know, but obviously it can be done as I've seen plenty of tanks with painted backs. Anyone know? Also, any suggestions on whether to paint it blue or black?

How to identify the source of microbubbles in closed a loop?

I set up my closed loop system last night. It is run by a Dart pump and has 2 drains and 4 returns. It is putting out bubbles, and I have isolated the problem to one of the drains. As long as I shut the ball valve for that drain there are no bubbles, but when it is open I get a slight...

    Can anyone here cut glass?

I've got 2 long narrow strips of glass that I wan't to use for bracing on my new tank, but they are too long. I need about 6" cut off of each piece. They are currently 42" long X 3" Wide X .5 " thick.

    Strange RO/DI behaviour

My RO unit is producing more ro water than waste water, which I'm pretty sure should never happen. Anyone got any ideas as to why this would be happening?

My triumph over a piece of glass!

I am not a DIY-er....not at all, but nevertheless I decided to remove the scratched up front panel from my new custom tank so I can replace it Starphire. After several long hours I finally managed to get the piece removed, and although this would probably be a trivial task to most of you, I'm...

Boudster's Dual Tank In-Wall Shallow Reef Project

Contstruction started yesterday on my new dual tank in-wall setup. The"main" tank is going to be a shallow reef tank (18" high, 4' long, 3' deep). I had this tank custom built by one of our sponsors, Global Fish 'N Pets. Those of you who have met me know that I am very short, so with my short...

Is my flame hawk the culprit?

When emptying my tank yesterday I noticed my 2 sexy shrimp and 2 peppermint shrimp were missing....do you think my flame hawk would have eaten them. I've heard they sometimes prey on small inverts...he's my prime suspect.

Disaster Strikes My Tank! (In the form of a 3 year old girl)

I came home from work today and went upstairs to look at my tank. The lights were still off so I couldn't get a good look at it, but I noticed more sound than usual coming from the sump, and when I checked it out my skimmer was overflowing like crazy. I turned the tank's light on, and noticed...

The Ocean almost killed me Friday

My wife and I took a trip to Cancun this weekend. Friday was our first day there, and late in the afternoon we made our way out to the beach. The water was sooooo blue and the waves were huge, so I had to get out in the water. I was just kind of playing in the waves...trying to get out there...
